This 8 page guide includes information on osteoporosis prevention and treatment.
Find out about the pros and cons of Actonel, Boniva, Evista, Forteo, Fortical, Fosamax, Menostar, Miacalcin and Reclast for strengthening bones.
Drugs that may contribute to bone loss are listed and discussed.
I’ve done a lot of research on Osteoporosis treatment so there was nothing new in this pdf, but it is nicely organized. Here are my criticisms and why I won’t be sharing this with anybody who is at risk.
1. I question the overall bias in this guide that drugs are the way to go. It seems that you are bending over backwards to not offend the drug industry. Suggesting that Bisphosphonates “may be a good fit” at this point is dangerous advice. You know what they are seeing. I predict that someday soon, they’ll be off the market. They are proving to be counter-productive, damaging to bones.
2. No mention of the dangers of Calcium in the bloodstream with heart attacks. People should be warned about that. I understand that blood calcium levels are tied to mortality. Be careful with Calcium. There is one helpful observation in this pdf that people who get a lot of sun but no calcium have far less osteo than those who get a lot of calcium but no sun. But that is a sidebar, not the takeaway you give.
3) No mention of K2, which is now well-known to be important for managing bones and getting mineral (calcium-magnesium etc.) into the bones.
4) Magnesium is mentioned, lightly. Needs to be stressed.
